These are fun. April of 1990.
1. 487's plow is blocked up outside the north end of the shop. We had it removed that winter to bore the piston and valves.
2. A plowless 487 out the south end of the shop. 488 is hot and looks to be in use as a switch engine. Another stripped down engine, perhaps 489 is out in the yard behind 488.
3. Gerald Blea is welding the return bends on some superheater units. Stripped down 489 is behind him. A good guess the units Gerald is welding on are 489's.
4. A soggy cold April day in Chama. I bet it is snowing a few miles up the hill. We've got some passenger cars awaiting to have some work done on them.
5. A rare shot of #19 is its C&TS paint I applied to her in the late 1980's. Soon after I painted her (probably the next winter) the 19 was allowed to freeze up cracking the water pump on one
engine and cracking the cylinder block on the other engine, putting her out of service.
