The big car shop in East Ely was used by the copper company to maintain its fleet of cars used for the haul from the pit to the mill at McGill. The first time I saw the facilities there was back in the mid-1970s. I had written ahead, saw the GM, and then turned loose with the admonishment to be careful.
While wondering the yard, I ran into Mr. Workman who was the railroad's car foreman. He took me into the building where the railroad kept it passenger cars; this was the building not included in your views. Start with you view looking east at the car shop as if it is 12 o'clock and turn to 8 o'clock -- that was the building the railroad kept the coach and the mail car of which Mr. Workman seemed very proud. We walked over to the center north door of the big building and looked inside; Mr. Workman said that this was the mining company's shop and we had to stay outside and not go further than the doorway.
