See the book "World of South American Steam" by Roy Christian and Ken Mills, printed in 1974 by Big Trees Press of Felton, California. See pages 17, 18 and 19.
On page 17 the authors state:
"If one is traveling overland from Lima to Chiclayo, there are several railways that have recently [1974] stopped operating steam regularly that are worth a visit. These are Casa Grande and Hacienda Cartavio near Trujillo and Hacienda Pomalca and Hacienda Cayalti near Chiclayo.
"Casa Grande is a large sugar platation and its 3-foot gauge track remains intact. A fireless cooker still works in the mill area. Many engines, 2-8-2s and 2-8-0s, remain in good condition at Casa Grande..."
On page 18 are rosters of steam locomotives in Peru. At the bottom under Inactive RR's is listed Casa Grande with the statement that it had "2 BLW 2-8-2 (1943)."
On page 19 there is a picure credited to Roy Christian of a 2-8-2 numbered Casa Grande 32 and captioned, "Casa Grande's No. 32 is marked U.S. Army. The 1943 Baldwin Mike remains serviceable."
Nothing in this interesting book ties the engines to the White Pass.
