Now for some shots out on the road...
I've always been intrigued by the use of trees and other foliage to frame photos, particularly by O.W.L. In this case I tried my hand at it while standing on an 8 foot ladder. Here, #475 is rounding Long's Curve en-route for Carpenter's crossing on a rather hot Fall afternoon. Temperatures were in the 80s when I was there on the 10th.
One shot I most definitely wanted to get, irregardless of the unseasonably warm temperatures, was a shot of the train while adrift in a sea of corn stalks. Here, having just exited the yard limits, #475 appears to be running along the tops of the seasonal crop as she makes her way back to East Strasburg. Even with standing on my 8 foot ladder I had to hold the camera above my head by a few feet to get a somewhat clear shot at the train while still incorporating the corn stalks. The ladder is 8 feet tall and I'm 6'3" so you do the math...
It ain't a steam railfanning trip unless there's a pan involved! Well, maybe not always. The Verdant View farm is located just east of Paradise Lane and the famous Red Caboose Motel. They recently removed their red stop signs at their crossing while leaving their classic looking RR crossing sign instead which helped to create a more classic image. #475 is seen here coasting across the Flats as she passes at the Verdant View Farm. That's fireman Ross Gochenaur waving.
That's all I have for today folks! Hope you like them. I'll post my R&N #425 fall foliage pictures once I get time to edit them.
