The caption is just a bit off -
The photo was apparently taken in May of 1967, several months before the last trains between Alamosa and Durango. This is most likely an empty (deadhead) train consisting of the cars used on the last of the three-day Kolor Karavans the previous October; they're being returned from Alamosa to Durango for the 1967 season of the Silverton Train. I'm not sure when the K-28 was run to Alamosa for servicing, as K-36 #483 was the road engine when these cars rolled east on the last day (Durango to Alamosa) of the Sept. 30 - Oct. 2 Kiwanis Klub excursion in 1966.
