Problem 1 - you're looking at a weight of around 200 tons on 8 axles at 3000 hp. That is about twice the locomotive you need, and there is very little possibility of them able to run on any former Rio Grande narrow gage track due to weight and clearances. In addition to changing the gage, you would also have to change the traction motors as I believe they either have GE 761s or EMD, but regardless they are not capable of 36" gage.

As previously stated - just because they are sitting doesn't mean they are available for sale. Most of the Guatemala locomotives were listed in bad condition in the inventory when RDC took over, and they only got a few of them going.

SP #1 was out of service for something like 30+ years, so it would need a whole lot of TLC. It was only 400 hp and 15,800 pounds of continuous tractive effort. It is half the size of what D&S needs. Sadly, I'm not sure that SP #1 still exists. No one seems to be able to confirm that it didn't fall to the scrappers in the smelter cleanup. The last confirmed sighting of it is about 5 years old, same with the last United Fruit diesels in Panama (likely scrapped, but never confirmed).
