From what I can see the switch for the Farmington branch was just North of the Animas 550/ 160 road bridge. The line headed south for a few hundred yards, before getting a bit more west in it as it headed for Wilson Gulch trestle. So it would have gone through the Humane Centre, Walmart and Home Depot sites. It was also down grade as the Chama line was much more elevated than the river. (From the 550/ 160 you drive down into WallyMart and the Chama line is above you..You can still see a bit of the Farmington grade just east of the trestle. I'm assuming that the ROW is under Trestle road. There's a good photo of that drop in grade and the angle here- I think this after the Chama line turns SW while Farmington is SSW. there are some other good Carbon Junction Photos before this on the same site.

BTW is the Mongolian restaurant recommended? We're spoilt for Asian food here in the UK and tend to stick with American restaurant (apart from East meets SW and the Thai takeaway down by the depot) when we're in Durango.
