Shipments of lime to Pueblo and Leadville have been resumed from the Garfield quarries near Salida. A number of carloads destined for Leadville passed through the yards Wednesday.

The Monarch run has been discontinued until next spring. Occasional trips will be made on this line whenever there is any freight to bring out. Monarch is snowed under and practically deserted. The Garfield Quarry is closed down for the winter and all the lime will shipped from the Otis Quarries.

The D&RG construction crew were in Garfield the past week rebuilding the compressor room at the Rodenburg Quarry, which was destroyed last winter by the D&RG engine going over the embankment and crushing the compressor room.

In 1975, I hiked up to the Garfield switch back with my son and a friend, and we found all kinds of rusted equipment inside that giant gash in the mountain side.
