Forgive me for getting a few miles away from Guatemala and involving
Mexico, but Rich is right. Adding to that, I still have the original 1970 letter
from an official from NdeM stating that they could "no longer effect the sale"
of a whistle and bell that I had already paid for. While I did get all of my money back,
it was this attitude of not parting with what they deemed as national treasures
that kept this from coming to fruition. I had hopes of getting one of their large
4 chime whistles, but c'est la vie.
This same thing also happened to other yanks, among them a friend who had
over 5 figures down there for a 4-8-4 and then had them turn around and nix that deal.
He was not late or in arrears in any way, but this was what went on.
