Jack-

In response, I offer the following points:

1. Bloedel, Stewart & Welsch #4 and MacMillan Bloedel #1066 are the same locomotive, Baldwin 2-8-2T, c/n 58687, built 11/1925. Turner's Logging By Rail says Bloedel, Stewart & Welch first operated at Myrtle Point, which Google Maps suggests is on the British Columbia mainland:

In 1927, the company moved to Menzies Bay on Vancouver Island:

The Menzies Bay operation was a large one, with a mainline extending 69 miles into the woods at its height. The #4 worked on the Menzies Bay line until 1953, when MacMillan Bloedel replaced that railroad with trucks. MB then transferred the #4 to the log dump at Chemainus, where it became M-B #1066:

The now #1066 served as the backup locomotive to M-B #1044 until 1968, then became the primary locomotive for the last little bit of the log dump operations there. It was then used as the mill switcher briefly before being replaced by M-B #1055 (Baldwin 2-8-2T, c/n 60942, built 8/1929). Note the #1055 is the locomotive you included in your earlier post, the second one on the thread. Anyway, Turner goes onto state the #1066 remained stored in the mill yard for a while before being placed on display, first at Squamish on the mainland and now at Qualicum back on Vancouver Island, where it has obviously been restored back to Bloedel, Stewart & Welsch #4. It is underneath a covered display stand next to the depot:

2. The MacMillan Bloedel 2-6-2T #1044 is NOT the Thomson & Clark #2 in the video.

Thomson & Clark #2 in the video was a Baldwin, c/n 57688, built 4/1924. It went on to become Alberni Pacific #2, then MacMillan Bloedel #1008. Almost certainly scrapped, when I don't know.

MacMillan Bloedel #1044 in the picture to which you linked was/is a Porter, c/n 6877, built 5/1924. Turner has its history as originally built for Timberland Development Company #4; to Victoria Lumber Company #4, then M-B #1044. It apparently saw fairly extensive service on several different M-B operations, in both road and switching service before becoming the switcher at Chemainus, where it remained in operation until 1968 before being placed on display:

3. I suspect the inclusion of the footage of the BS&W #4 is probably in some sort of error. Everything in that video up to the appearance of the #4 is clearly on the Thomson & Clark, then here are a few seconds of footage of the BS&W #4 towing a log train through the woods and then at a log dump, then we jump back to footage of the T&C #2 at what is clearly another log dump. While the old T&C properties were acquired by M-B, I don't see any specific resources indicating how much if any this operation ran under the M-B banner. The T&C railroads seemed to have run from Deep Bay (inlet northwest from Bowser) up towards Horne Lake, corrupted to Horn Lake and Home Lake in the video:

That's all for tonight. More maybe tomorrow if needed.
