Not really a tool, but a great experience. Riding in the caboose with my dad, NP conductor, on a job known as the Kapowsin Logger, I found a headlight off of a St. Regis mallet! This would have been about 1966 or 7 and the crew would rest while the St. Regis crew brought down the loads and left with the empties. Dad told me they had scrapped a mallet about a mile up the tracks, on a weed covered spur. I walked up and found all the pieces except glass. That thing got really heavy carrying it back to the caboose! I later traded it for a beautiful wood cook stove. Now I wish I'd kept it.
