Some time in the last few weeks (between my trips along I-10 through the eastern desert), the Eagle Mountain Railroad was abandoned, at least where it crossed under I-10 at Red Cloud Road. All the rail is gone and there are piles of old ties along the right of way.

Sic transit gloria mundi.

According to wikipedia, this began in April and is progressing to Ferrum, the old site of the SP interchange. Back up a few lines from the location the link takes you.
