I'd hazard a guess you're not paid by the railroad as an employee nor as subcontractor and you volunteer.... thence you are playing at Railroad shopman.
Nothing denigrating the level of or quality of work performed was expressed in my query, so back off the friends mantra.
Specifically at Chama well since I see via the yard cams a work area eitherside of an active mainline, so I was wondering: are you curfewed for arrivals/departures, or limited to working between these arr/dep times and what happens with extra movements outside of the regular train(s)? How much training is given to railroad operations and the safe working around, outside of wearing your safety glasses, hearing protectors, hi-vis, safety footwear, hardhats and not climbing higher than one metre without fall protection or whatever else nanny state requires thesedays? Are there any impairment testing and rules knowledge regularly done to ensure compliance?
What requirements for adherence to those rules are placed upon yourselves, and what sort of management of personel is placed upon the volunteers? Should you or one of your crew slip up are there any penalties involved or dismissal from the crew entertained? In short, just how much responsibility is placed on you by either this FRA or the C&TS to prevent avoidable issues that could have far reaching consequences?
