It is my personal opinion that pacers are the lowest and most inconsiderate of all railfans. I have no respect for them regardless of how exciting it may be or how "careful" they behave.
When UP844 went through Utah on the Boise Turn this year traffic was stop-and-go on the interstate because the train was going about 50 but freeway speed is 70 and the pacers on the head took up both lanes. Held everybody up for almost five miles behind the train and caused several near misses and close shaves

During the Boise Turn as well the highway patrol was present up and down Weber and Echo Canyons. This was especially helpful when people decided to park their cars ON the interstate bridges to get their photos. Unfortunately they can't cite people for going 20 mph under the speed limit, only over...
