The 3600's had a much shorter rigid wheel base than a UP 4000 because of smaller drivers. In addition the 3600's probably had lateral motion driving boxes on the front drivers of both engine units.

The longest rigid wheelbase steam to cross La Veta were 2-10-2's with lateral motion driving boxes on the #1 and #5 axles.
