I have friends who climbed all over Niagara bridge taking measurements in the early 80's when the entire bridge was standing. Exactly one week after their expedition, the northern half of the bridge collapsed. There has always been a suspicion that someone tried to pull it down with a 4x4 as you could nearly drive right up to the edge of the bridge. I used to walk over Bourland Bridge in the mid-1980's when it looked relatively safe. Over time, one of the bents began sagging and eventually, like a domino effect, this caused the rest of the bridge to collapse. I haven't been back to the Westside territory in over 20 years.
