"While 487 got water and people stretched their legs, Russ and I wandered up around the corner and stood on the hill where the dynamite cache is located. You can see an afternoon thunder storm starting to build up in hills behind 487."
The Friends tree/brush trimming crew in 2015 cut along the tracks west of Sublette and last year felled aspens on the curve just west of the dynamite cache so passengers on the train could look over the cut and see the cache when the docents mentioned it over the PA system. We finished that just and got back to our vehicle before one of those afternoon thunderstorms that Earl mentioned rumbled in and dropped hail that made the drive out interesting. Anyway, depending on what high-priority requests we get from the RR and the Friends honchos for work elsewhere along the line, I expect the crew will set aside a day to work around Sublette during our week in late June. Besides the close-in trackside growth, there are some trees set back a little that we want to take down for safety. I expect we also will do more clearing at Cresco and to trackside trimming between there and Coxo and in the Narrows where it has been a couple of years since we had time to work those, in addition to clearing one photo-line location already tentatively identified for the fall charter. Thinking wishfully, it's too bad there isn't a state prison or county jail in the immediate vicinity that could provide some very cheap trustee labor over the summer.
