Folks,
This past October 22-23, I was fortunate to be able to attend a photo charter featuring SOO 1003, a big, standard gauge Mikado, built in 1913 by the American Locomotive Company. The charter was run on the Wisconsin Southern (WSOR) and was operated by the Steam Locomotive Historical Association (SLHA) and Historic Transport Preservation (HTP). The locomotive is owned by the SLHA and based in Hartford, Wisconsin at the Wisconsin Auto Museum. This event utilized trackage from Hartford west to Horicon, Beaver Dam and Fox Lake. Except for some early morning overcast on the 22nd, we were blessed with beautiful weather all weekend and the images were downright pretty! In particular, the sunset and dusk shots on the causeway at Fox Lake were exceptional.
I've put together a small Flickr Album of the resulting images. This locomotive is beautifully maintained and looks as if she just rolled out of the Alco shops. Take a look if you have a minute or two:
