I think I might have an answer to my own question so here goes. According to Lathrop, Pap Fisher used to stand on the narrow porch of the mercantile store and stare out at Soda Spring Hill. That reference I cannot find on any maps as of yet. However if one was on the porch in town (across the river from the Hotel) and was looking towards the south-east there are many hilltops that should work out. Early pictures of Cimarron only show a dwelling where Newberry's store is now as well. And during the research with old photos, the saloon as well has surfaced. It is situated on the west leg of the wye and look appears in the 1880-1890s pictures but is gone in later ones. What I find interesting about Lathrop's book is the facts check out as to what he was writing down. There may have been some embellishment but as far as locations and places go he is right on target with his statements from my research. More views from my camera obscure as they become known. Paul.
