Re: Cost of Alamosa train shelter?

For general reference, here in Ridgway we are now building a 150 foot by 35 foot steel "train shed". It will be 16 feet high at the sides, with a peaked roof, the sides are open for unrestricted viewing. It will cover two tracks and put all of our cars (and the future RGS 36 re-creation) under cover. Foundation is in place and the prefab building is being delivered tomorrow. We went with Rhino Steel Building Systems from Texas, who build lots of different styles of structures. We found them through an ad in Western Horseman magazine for horse arenas. They designed the building to our needs, to comply with our local building codes. We are having a local contractor erect the building in September (this is the busy time of year here, so the actual setup had to comply with their schedule). When we first started looking at this project it looked like it would be very expensive, but by going with an experienced company, our total cost, including building permit, design work, delivery, etc, will be around $62K.. That's still a huge project for our small museum, but thanks to our generous members and a modest, but very appreciated grant from the Rocky Mountain Railroad Historical Foundation, this will be completed and paid for before winter. It looks to be a good product, we'll report after it's done.

PS - we did not include a pit for running gear work.
