Hello, All -
Just 25 years ago this morning, sunrise in Old Sacramento, California caught newly-restored ex-S.P. 4-6-2 #2472 and younger sister 4-8-4 #4449 backing out of the California State Railroad Museum toward the nearby AmTrak depot where they would pick up a sizable number of passengers - including my daughter Jackelopette and her mom - for #2472's first revenue trip in nearly 35 years: the 'Oakland Daylight' from Sacramento to Oakland:

Roughly three hours later the double-header - with #2472 doing most of the work - climbed the approach to the long bridge between Benecia and Martinez over Suisun Bay - the northeastern arm of the San Francisco Bay:

#2472 continued on from Oakland to her home during that time on the navy base at Hunter's Point just south of San Francisco; #4449 pulled the train back to Sacramento, and a couple of days later on the return trip to her home in Portland, Oregon.

p.s. In both cases above, the photo posted is one frame before "Resurrection" and "Clear Stack Rides Again", posted here several years ago along with several other photos of #2472 undergoing test runs following the re-timing of her valve settings the previous day - see [ngdiscussion.net] et seq.
