Attached photo I took begs some questions and I have never seen too many comments on this forum about modern track maintenance on C&TS and D&S except for occasional ballast train pics. Just how many 3 foot gage tampers like this are out there? It looks like C&TS has this shoulder jack tamper leading a chase tamper for the surfacing gang. I believe they were westbound at Osier in this photo. Were these machines custom made new or modified standard gage models? How many are on D&S and C&TS? I know what my company's Standard gage Jackson machines cost-and they aren't cheap to purchase, maintain or operate, but these are amazing labor saving machines!
I assume both lines have ballast regulators too but I do not recall seeing them during my visit.
