As I mentioned some time ago in another thread (see [ngdiscussion.net]) I recently acquired a small stack of company papers from the Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes RR circa 1912-1918, arguably the railroad's greatest era.
Rather than keeping them squirreled away, I think the best thing to do now that I have a working scanner again is to share them with the group.
First, some Motive Power Department timesheets for the week ending October 16, 1918:
Eddie West (Ed West, Jr., son of the well known SR&RL engineer Ed West, Sr.), who appears to have been working his rear end off -- 113 hours in one week:
Herschel Boynton (my scanner cut off the edge, but the original clearly says "H. P. Boynton"):
Charlie Hodgman:
Charlie French:
Dan Cushman:
I'm surprised to see Dan Cushman of all people listed as a "spare engineer" since he had almost 40 years of seniority by 1918, having hired on as a fireman on the Sandy River RR at the beginning in 1879. Regardless, the railroad seems to have made good use of him in the shop this particular week. (It was the SR&RL's practice to have engine crews work in the shop on days when they weren't needed for train service.)
