When I started on the railroad in the 60's, a feller could work 16 hours, working switch engines would tie up at 15' 59" so they could get out on their 8 hours rest. If you worked 16 hours you had to take 10 hours rest.
It then went to 14 hours for a short time and then reduced down to 12 hours.
