This was contained in an email from one of my fellow Trails and Rails volunteers. This was recently posted by the Jefferson County Sheriff. Tunnel 2 is on the left.
Looks like the damage to the Moffat is worse than initially thought. There are at least three major washouts --- one that is 2500 feet long between Rocky and Leyden. This one between Tunnels 2 and 3 is about 200 feet deep. There is another between Tunnels 15 and 17 with the tracks suspended in the air over the old fill. Tunnel 16 also has large rocks coming down inside. These are early damage reports and there is likely more. They are not doing much now until this storm is goneā¦. The early estimates I have heard is 1 month out of service, although this is early and likely will be revised..... Sounds like the bridge over the Platte on the Greeley line was saved by a levee breach, although it washed out a large chunk of track elsewhere and will be down 2 days. KP is OK. BNSF is expected to be taken out at Fort Morgan.
