I knew you have to soak the waste, but did not know there was a specific way to roll them into ropes and pack them one after the other.

I will have to look into those journal oil.

I bought a packing iron on eBay about a year or two ago. It was for SG and was to large for our NG boxes, so I had the blacksmith in Ghost Town make us a new one that is slightly shorter. It looks just like the one in the Army operation info you linked. I also realized that what I thought was old car wash mitts were true journal lube pads.

Do you know of a source other than Kelly Andersons for lube pads?
