No trains were operated over Cumbres Pass on February 8, 1937, drifts 2 to 6 feet deep. No. 115 and No. 116 run as stubs between Alamosa and Antonito, Durango and Chama

One mile east Cumbres 1 hour 30 minutes account 2 derailments RG 164, PHP, account loaded mostly in one end and top heavy quarters of beef hung from top of car, 1 hour get train to Cumbres after taking RG 164 to Cumbres account broken train line, (arrive Cumbres 7:30 PM) 1 hour set RG 164 to wye and saw conductor Curtis caboose off for 116 to get by
Cumbres 2 hours for No. 116, 45 minutes get conductor Curtis caboose and RG 164 behind caboose, my enginemen’s 16 hours up 9:00 PM, my 16 hours up midnight. I could not make Chama, then necessary to return Curtis caboose to train so Curtis relieve me when 16 hours up. My train froze up, engines had trouble moving train to let No. 116 pass and pick up RG 164 behind caboose.”
