Early on the morning of 08/27, the primary instigator returned to the scene of a previous crime.
With considerable help from a visitor from the north, evidence of his earlier wrongdoing was
unveiled in the rising sun
:
Upon returning to town, it was discovered that #487's metamorphosis into 'The Scarlet Harlot', "#483", had been completed

The End
The Accused:
The following persons are believed to be primarily responsible for the
harlotization grotesque-ification of a previously respectable and hard-working locomotive.
Those involved in other activities related to the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad should not be held in any way accountable for the painting of "#483".
Principal Perpetrator: Jim Poston
Jim did most of the pre-metamorphosis groundwork and preparation for the conversion, including coordination with the railroad and shop crew and gathering of necessary tools. He provided the cleaning equipment & supplies, and most of the energy needed to prepare #487 for her "conversion".
Lead Painter: Joe Tribble
Joe is a contractor based in Chama with extensive experience in construction, electrical, painting and plumbing; he was the principal carpenter for the restoration of the coaling tower roofs last year. When masking of #487 for the Tuscan Red foundation paint fell behind schedule his help was crucial in completing this prep work prior to his spray painting of the domes, cab and tender.
Lettering & Numbering: Rich and Mike Murray
This father-son team from New York was instrumental in getting "#483" ready in time for the first day of the Celebration. Without their help the lettering - and especially the correct numbering of the rear of the tender - would simply not have been completed anywhere near on time.
Final Prep & Detailing: Cody and Casey Akin
These brothers from Texas had sent Roger Hogan a beautiful 3-D life-size replica of #483's number plate. After the Unholy Instigator commandeered it for the project (actually, it was graciously lent by Roger), they helped attach it to "#483's" smokebox front as the very necessary finishing touch.
International Conspirator: Bill Scobie
While Jim, Rich & Mike and the Akin Brothers were cleaning up their counterfeiting operation, Canadian Bill Scobie was helping Russo Loco clean up the scene of a previous conspiracy - the Dark Olive Green Boiler Jacket of engine #489.
Material Witnesses: The Chama Engine Shop Crew
Avery, Ducky and Tommy should in no way be blamed for the travesty; they graciously tolerated the intrusion into their quarters by the perpetrators, but are in no way responsible for the actions of misguided railfans and curmudgeons.
