My guess is that Chama based crews disappeared with the arrival of the large locomotives.
From everything I could gather, it appears the table in Chama was identical to the Durango table, which easily held a K37. One reason for a lack of K37 shots on the Chama table is that in the 1930's where the railfan community began to seriously photograph the NG, all the 490's were working out of Salida. The Chama table should have easily supported a K37.
However, none of the K class engines would fit in the roundhouse, with the exception of the far west stall which extends into the machine shop.
