One of ways to lube a triple valve is as follows:
3 drops of lite oil on the triple valve bush. Rub a little on the piston ring.
Use very dry graphite on the slide valve and slide valve bush. Apply the graphite using a some type of wood handle with a small piece of leather on the end. I used a handle from an old small wire brush.
Rub the graphite onto the slide valve and slide valve bush until it turns a copper color.
Blow off any excess.
Remember to never lube the emergency piston.
These are some of the methods that I read in some of the old Westinghouse manuals from the early 1900's.
JB,
Like I said in my e-mail to you, I would be more then glad to fix your K's. Here at Strasburg we primarily use the P-2. We also have a few P-1's, K-1 & 2's. We stock a ton of parts for the 40+ valves that we use. Like most of the ancient brake equipment, if you can't buy it, you have to make it. If you have any questions, please call me at the Strasburg Rail Road @ 717-687-8421.
