For three years now, the (new) PCRR has held an 'open house' the first weekend in May. "The Railroad Roundup" is a fundraiser for the San Luis Obispo RR Museum, and is well worth a weekend trip from either Los Angeles or San Francisco. San Luis Obispo is a fair sized city, home of California Polytechnial University (Cal Poly / "Cow Poly"), and has plenty of shops, good restaurants, etc. There several excellent wineries in the area as well, so there is some incentive for non-railfan adult members of the family to come along. My favorite is Castoro Cellars, which used to - and probably still does - book some "dam good music" on Saturday evenings. ("Castoro" = beaver, hence their slogan "dam good wine".)

Here are a few photos from the May, 2005, Railroad Roundup. The weather was especially good for photography that year, as a storm had gone through just a day or two before.
