ACCORDING TO SEVERAL SOURCES K28'S 470 & 479 WERE THE PASSENGER ENGINES USED ON THE SHAVANO. 474 WAS USED AS THE CRESTED BUTTE REGULAR ENGINE. PRIOR TO 1940 456 HAD BEEN THE REGULAR CRESTED BUTTE ENGINE. 456 WAS REGULATED TO SWITCHING SERVICE AND HELPER SERVICE ON THE CRESTED BUTTE BRANCH BY SOME TIME IN EARLY 1940. WILL HAVE TO CHECK MY RECORDS AND SEE WHAT YEAR 456 WAS TRANSFERED TO MONTROSE BUT IT WAS SOMETIME AFTER 1942. AS FAR AS 278 HAVING A DOME CHANGED TO TALLER DOME MOST OLDER PHOTS SHOW NO CHANGE IN DOME HEIGHT RATHER A CHANGER IN TENDER CAPACITY.
