The next chapter of the restoration of D&RGW locomotive 223 has begun. Yesterday June 8th, 2026, 223 Locomotive Foundation president Jimmy Booth along with additional director John Bush, and a few folks from the Golden Spike Chapter successfully loaded 223s cab, pilot/pilot beam, and tender on a low boy trailer bound for Durango.
While it may not be as exciting as moving the frame and boiler, it all has to be moved at some point and these are some of the easier of the larger components to move. We were also able to get a deal on the trucking as the truck was already on its way to Durango to load up D&RGW 340.
Speaking of 223s boiler and frame, plans are already being made to move them in the next month or so. As I am writing this D&RGW 223 is being unloaded off the trailer so D&RGW 340 can be loaded up.
