Saturday May 6th was a busy day at the Colorado Railroad Museum. Aside from continuing to prepare for next weekends Colorado Crossings event the end of the day involved moving D&RGW GP30 3011.
Before moving the Geep to a different display location we decided to have some fun and couple 3011 into 5401 our SD40T-2. Using our
narrow gauge 1948 Plymouth "PeeWee", we moved 3011 onto the turntable and spun it around so it was backwards to the tunnel motor.
After we had our fill admiring big Rio Grande diesel power we used PeeWee to place 3011 on the outbound track. Then D&RGW idler car X3050 was coupled to the front of 3011 to aid in the next move. In a scene reminiscent of Alamosa(sort of, 491 would have been better.) former D&SNG
narrow gauge diesel Big Al was then used to move 3011 across the property to a new display location. This is the first time 3011 has left the roundhouse since its arrival some 14 years ago. 3011 was placed near CB&Q O5B 5629. Interesting fact is that 3011 and 5629 are only seperated by 22 years.
This is not 3011s permanent display location but it is a place prominence, and can be viewed by guests at the museum and folks passing the museum on 44th ave.
Note the new karTrak barcode decals. Oh look, narrow gauge Rio Grande diesel 50 can be seen in the background.
Leo and Luke protect the shove.
