Early Sumpter Valley Shot at S Wye

This early Sumpter Valley Ry. scene was taken at S Wye below the town of Sumpter. We see the daily west bound passenger train ready to head up to Larch which was the summit going over Huckleberry Mtn. The engine is one of the Brooks built moguls that came from the Utah Northern. The consist is mail, baggage and express car #1; and coach #23. In the back ground is the Oregon Smelting & Refinery Co. smelter. The scan is from the SVRR Archive.
