Today Jack and I hiked to this Animas canyon overlook - braving light rain and negotiating tangles of downed trees. Just before the train appeared, the rain stopped where we were, and with more good luck coming our way, the engines didn't fill the valley with smoke as has happened often.
With no more up-canyon steam trains, we then spent the afternoon hiking a section of the Colorado Trail in alternating sun and rain - I kinda miss the parade of three steam trains of earlier years!
