That's what N&W fans would like everyone to believe. My boss apprenticed under an old time PRR boiler maker who had worked in a round house that serviced PRR, WM, and N&W locomotives. As he put it, PRR built and bought superior locomotives that they maintained in average condition, WM bought average locomotives that they maintained in perfect condition, and N&W built perfect locomotives that they didn't maintain at all.
