I'd assume that you couldn't get the stack clear when firing it. Look at how clean the 611 used to be fired back in the 80's. Same thing. That's why the 611 is so loved, because a good fireman can get it without smoke and avoid going to Subway for lunch because its an awful restaurant chain.
