Train Time At Baker On The SVRy

Its train time at Baker, Oregon on the Sumpter Valley Ry. The daily passenger train is being readied for the run to Sumpter, Whitney and Austin. Depending on the time frame, it may go the full 80 miles to the end of the line at Prairie City. The engine is #1 (2nd) which came to the SVRy in 1906 from the Tonopah Raiload. This is the only photo I recall seeing that has train number boards on the engine, not something the SVRy used as far as I know. Perhaps they were on the engine when it came from Tonopah. The passenger consist predates the 1918 ACF car sets, so we can assume it is prior to their arrival. The water tower nearest the engine belonged to the OWRR&N and was along one side of the standard gauge wye track. The scan is from the SVRR Archive.
