Every now and then a used book purchase can contain a pleasant surprise. A couple years ago I bought an early CPR guidebook for passengers on its mainline. Tucked inside was a menu from the Mount Stephen House at Field BC, dated July 30, 1915. This was one of three hotels and eating stops built so the railway didn’t have to carry heavy dining cars through the mountains. It’s the only menu I’ve ever seen from that hotel so was a great addition to our CPR chinaware book.

And on that topic, remember when the CRRM used to include original paperwork when you placed a book order? I saved a few over the years and made a small donation of them to the Ridgway RR Museum. I did keep this one tho, an RGS trip Ridgway-Dallas Divide and return by I gather leased D&RGW 227 back on Nov 1, 1912. Yep, early paperwork can be fascinating.
