Your burner dispenses oil and steam together to atomizer the fuel into a mist. They are not separate parts in the firebox, they are separate valves in the cab.
Hand firing a stoker loco any distance is not as easy as you think.
100% fact, oil burns hotter than coal. No arguing here, no ifs or buts or maybe sometimes, oil is hotter.
