Thanks, guys, for your responses. As Jimmy Blouch noted, I did post this photo in January 2019, as a scan of a Kodacolor print. This time I made a scan from the original negative, which turned out much better.
The person at left in the photo is the Cumbres section foreman. He is heading toward my VW beetle for a ride back to Chama in the moderately warm car rather than returning to Chama in a freezing cold open speeder. The person by the standpipe is either fireman Stanley Smith or the head end brakeman. The crew still had many hours of duty in the dark ahead of them - cutting out rear end helper 488 for the light engine run to Alamosa, and 493 combining the afternoon turn with the cars brought to Cumbres in the morning before following 488 to Alamosa.
