In other words, George -

You could drive into Osier and then have a choice of going west on about seven miles of nearly level track to Los Pinos siding, or going east on about 3½ miles of nearly level track to the east portal of Rock Tunnel.  IIRC it's not real steep east of Rock Tunnel to at least Phantom Curve, but east of Mud Tunnel there are several stretches of 1.4% grade.
