First, a caveat: I've never ridden a rail bike so take this with a couple grains of salt. In addition to the liability and safety factors, I have a difficult time understanding the fun factor of rail bikes. This manufacturer (https://www.railriders.net/) states that there rail bikes weigh 150 lb. A medium-priced road bike today weighs between 17 lb - 20 lb. Riding A 150 lb rail bike up even a 1% grade would seem to be a lot of work. Oof da!
The WM Scenic has the ideal infrastructure for those interested in combining a train ride with cycling. That paved trail along side the tracks looks like fun to me...much more than pedaling a 150 lb rail bike. One day for the train, second day for the trail. BTW, anyone know the outcome of the WM Scenic's concerns that it filed with the FRA regarding the Tracks & Yaks rail bike company? Link: [
