I'll second that motion, Hank -
. . . for at least the fifth time in the past 17½ years since I learned of the existence of the NGDF. Railroads have "mixed & matched" parts for many years, the main task of the shop being to get engines back out on the road a.s.a.p. and at minimal expense, without any regard to 'histœric integrity'. Based on numerous previous discussions by current and former C&TS employees far more knowledgeable than myself, placing #492's boiler onto #497's running gear makes a lot of sense. But which number should the resultant hybrid wear? I would think that for safety reasons the Powers-That-Be would be most interested in tracking the history of – and service days on – the boiler, so wouldn't '#492' (with correct font and spacing, of course) be preferred in this case?
