I imagine that this photo taken behind the shop at SVRR dates from about 1977 or 78. Either #19 or #20 is seen on the track beside the shop, so that makes the date 1977 when they arrived or later. The fact that the shop isn't painted makes me think not too much later. Union Pacific helped SVRR a lot in the early days with donations of rails, ties, track material and tools. This photo with the big UP banner may be a nod of thanks to Uncle Pete for his generosity. The banner used to hang in the shop and someone with a sense of humor told me that it was part of our organization's official motto: "We Can Handle It, If You Help Us Pick It UP".
