C&S Caboose 1006 - Structural Repairs

December 07, 2021 03:38PM
Work has continued on the structural pieces of the body of Caboose 1006. New top rails have been fabricated out of White Oak and installed on the top of the car body. These long pieces were originally made from White Oak, but had badly deteriorated from water getting in under the roof line.
Refurbished support arches for the Cupola (repaired by Michael Pannel were test fitted with the new Oak Top Rails, with very pleasant results.

Joint between new "Top Rail" and repaired original A End (Cupola End) Arch. This joint was further closed up using a rubber mallet.
