Extra 16 West

The late Ron Harr who was a founding member of SVRR, based on correspondence in our archive, was a long time friend of photographer Hank Griffith's Jr. of Boise. Letters between them that have made it into our archive suggest that Mr. Griffiths made a point of passing a copy of every photo that he had of the Sumpter Valley Ry. on to Ron. Here is a scan of from a set that Mr. Griffiths took on March 30th, 1939. This west bound freight with engine #16 has 34 cars and is about 7 miles out of Baker, on its way to Bates at MP 60. The road in the back ground today is State Hwy. #7 passing through Bowen Valley.
