With all the talk about locomotives in Durango and what is going to happen to some of them, well I have some news.
The Colorado railroad museum has purchased diesel #7 "Big Al" from the D&SNG.
This does NOT mean we are dieselizing museum operations. Let me make that clear right now. 20, 346 and 491 will continue to operate far into the future.
Purchasing #7 gives us more flexibility operationally. 7 will be able to handle any train we operate as primary or back up power. It will also allow us to the freedom to work on our current diesel 4 when it needs major work without fear of not having a back up locomotive.
The museum will take position of #7 sometime in the spring of 2022. Once onsite it will get some minor maintenance and be ready for operations. Not sure if we will be repainting it or not, but if we do you will see it here first.
