No way am I buying a blu-ray player until I have no choice. The next thing I need for my stereo/tv setup is a replacement for a dying VCR, and then repairs to another one so i can dub stuff.
It's the same as back in the 1980's when people used to tell me I should dump my records and replace them with CD's. "I could do that, but that would be the whole entertainment budget for 4-5 years!" (IE: No movies, no dates, no books, nothing new, just replacing stuff I already have.) Only difference is that they never quit making turntables. (Judging by the prices virgin ["new" in that they've never been out of the box] VCR's are bringing on Amazon etc., methinks they quit making them too soon!)
As for Blu-ray (or HD in general) my eyes are low definition. (I take off my glasses and the world is an Impressionist painting, saves on Art) Reminds me of when the Audiophiles used to argue over which stereo was better and the frequencies they were arguing about were beyond human ears. I suppose their dogs enjoyed 'em though.

PS God I miss stereo TV repair stores. the (god)-almighty 'net seems to think I should be OK with driving to the other side of the state (or to South Idaho)(both 5-8 hours away) to get (maybe) things fixed. Must have been programmed by somebody from North Dakota.
